May 23rd was the full moon. Give your monthly preventatives!
(If you have another way to remember to give your preventatives, that’s okay too! Do what works for you. I thought it might be fun for us to all give it together.)
Congratulations to Dr. Mack, whose daughter recently graduated from law school!
Here’s a reminder to plant your dahlias bulbs! The chance of frost has passed.
This past Sunday I participated in a Blessing of the Animals at St. Augustine Chapel. It was a lovely service and folks were generous in their donations to Cinnamon’s House, a local rescue organization in West Kingston, RI, for old or disabled pets that might otherwise be considered unadoptable.
Pet Poison Control
This month’s topic that I would like to touch on is pet poison control. Both prescription and non-prescription medications, veterinary and human, make up about half of dog and cat toxicities.
It is best to store these where pets can’t access them. We often keep medication or sugarless gum in purses and backpacks! Xylitol is a sweetener that is safe for people but causes dangerously low blood sugar in our pets. It is found in sugarless gum and a variety of peanut butters, as well as some other commonly used products.
Beware of the products our furry friends love to explore!
- Chocolate
- Grapes/Raisins
- Xylitol
- Ibuprofen
- Mouse/rat poison
- Antidepressants/Anti Anxiety Meds
- Marijauna
- Vitamin D3
- Onions
- Carprofen
- Lilies

Give us a call if you would like to have your pet microchipped!
I will leave you with a favorite quote:
“The Grace of God means something like: Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are because the party wouldn’t have been complete without you. Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Nothing can ever separate us. For you I created the universe. I love you. There’s only one catch. Like any other gift, the gift of grace can be yours only if you’ll reach out and take it. Maybe being able to reach out and take it is a gift too.”
— Frederick Buechner
My wish for each of you is that you can reach out and take hold of the Grace that allows you to thrive. Enjoy your critters, the relationships you’ve built with friends and family, and the warmer weather.
Until next month,
– Dr Dana
